What is creatine malate?

Creatine malate is a form of creatine that is bonded to Malic acid. This bond allows creatine monohydrate to be broken down easily and used by the muscle cells efficiently. Turning ordinary creatine into creatine malate is a difficult process and it creates a powder supplement that can be characterized as unstable in form; it binds quickly to liquids especially to water due to water’s strong chemical attraction to Malic acid. Creatine malate is so unstable that it can also combine with gasses that can easily release the bond between creatine and Malic acid.

On the positive side, it eliminates the various ugly side effects that common creatine monohydrate has like diarrhea, boating, gas formation and abdominal distention.

Foods that are naturally rich in creatine are protein rich foods like lean meats, fish, eggs, dairy and seafood. This combination is usually made to promote quicker absorption and quicker use of creatine during workouts.
