Creatine Monohydrate

What is Creatine monohydrate?

Creatine monohydrate is a supplement that is used by professional athletes and body builders. It is a supplement that can increase a person’s physical intensity during exercise, improve muscle tone and can help increase body mass to create a healthy, well-toned muscular appearance. Many athletes also use creatine to help recover after a strenuous workout routine.

Creatine is a metabolite; it is basically composed of three important amino acids namely l-methionine, l-arginine and l-glycine. It is naturally found in the skeletal and muscular system as well as small creatine stores in the brain, heart and in the testes. Under normal conditions, an average person metabolizes about 2 grams of creatine in a day while people who work out usually metabolize more than 2 grams.

Where do you get Creatine monohydrate?

Although there are creatine monohydrate supplements that can be taken before, during and post workouts, there are foods that have rich supplies of creatine. Foods that are rich in protein like red meats and fish like tuna have high levels of creatine but may not be enough to support a person who is working out. This is why more athletes and weight lifters or body builders take creatine monohydrate in supplement form.

How does Creatine monohydrate work?

Creatine works by directly enhancing the muscles of the body to develop leaner muscle mass. As a person takes in creatine supplements, it is stored inside the muscle fiber; it attracts water surrounding the tissues and cells of the muscle which increases the muscle’s size. As the muscle increases its size it also increases its muscle strength plus it gives the body a fuller or toned effect.

There have been debates regarding how creatine monohydrate is used. Others believed that you need to maintain a “loading phase” of about 20 grams of creatine for a week while other avid weight lifters believe that you only have to maintain a certain level every day to ultimately allow your body to adjust to creatine levels that can give you the optimum results in no time at all. There is absolutely no side effects of continually using creatine monohydrate supplements; however some have develop gastric upset after the initial days of using creatine supplements.
